Interior design in Dutamas

Welcome to Dutamas, and to a home that fits you.

Some towers here are still waiting for their keys, and some have years of living behind them. We plan each room around the way your household uses it, from the front door inward.

Dutamas interior design, where the kitchen often meets you at the door

Dutamas is a Kuala Lumpur neighbourhood off Jalan Duta, home to Solaris Dutamas and Publika, and Sundays in Bed is an interior designer for its condominiums and serviced residences, under DBKL.

Open the front door of a TuJu Type B, C or D, or a Solasta Type A, and the kitchen is right there, open to the dining table.

Shoes, shopping and supper then share the same few metres. So we’d give the entrance its own small zone: a ventilated shoe cabinet with somewhere to sit, a tall unit that closes over the clutter, and a hood strong enough to keep the cooking in the kitchen.

Before you buy anything, stand in the doorway with your floor plan and mark where shoes, bags and keys will land. If the answer is the kitchen counter, the entrance needs joinery.

At its centre is Solaris Dutamas, finished at the end of 2009, with Publika inside it. A Circle Line MRT station is planned near MITEC, with construction expected from 2027.

The study in the photograph near the top shows a working corner that earns its floor: shelves to the ceiling, a desk by the light and a chair to read in.

02The homes

Interior designer for every Dutamas tower, and the edge each sits on

In Dutamas, Sundays in Bed has owner’s guides to eight buildings, from Solaris Parq beside Publika to Papyrus and Miranda Hill on the North Kiara edge.

Dutamas has soft edges, so here is how this page draws them.

Solaris Dutamas, Solaris Parq, Solasta and The Fiddlewoodz in KL Metropolis, Naza TTDI’s 75.5-acre development beside MITEC, sit in Dutamas itself. Alix, Papyrus and Miranda Hill are on its North Kiara side, Agile Mont Kiara is off Jalan Duta Kiara, and TuJu is off Jalan Kuching in Segambut.

At the large end, Papyrus’s Type F is a 5,523 sq ft duplex with a family hall, a game room and a void over the living space. Under a void, a pendant needs a way to change its bulb, so we’d settle its drop and its access before the ceiling closes.

On that North Kiara side, the developers publish how far school is: the French School of Kuala Lumpur sits 450 m from Miranda Hill and 500 m from Papyrus, and Hevea French Primary School 400 m from Papyrus. In a family home there, the room we’d ask about first may be the one for homework.

KL Metropolis began with MITEC, the exhibition centre that opened in August 2017 on 13 acres along Jalan Dutamas 2; the homes around it came after, and an 8-acre Metropolis Park is to be run by Naza TTDI for its first 15 years.

Developers’ dates, checked 4 Oct 2026; “tbc” means no source had confirmed the keys.

New keys

Inside the defect period, we’d have the developer put right what’s listed before any of our work touches it.

What interior design costs in Dutamas

In Dutamas, the Sundays in Bed design fee for a 4+2 dual-key home at Miranda Hill is an estimated RM34,005–41,135, and for a three-bedroom at Solaris Parq RM16,180–23,310: a fee per room, agreed in writing before we begin.

From a compact suite to a dual-key home, the fee counts rooms. If your home came with wardrobes, a kitchen and air-conditioning, you may wonder what’s left to design.

Mostly, it’s the decisions the developer couldn’t make for you: what the second room is for, where the light falls in the evening, and which of the fittings you live with.

So list what was handed over, room by room, and decide for each piece whether it stays as it is, gets new doors or goes. Only the rooms we redesign count towards the fee.

Pick the home nearest yours, then set its rooms. The figures are worked out on your screen, and nothing leaves it.

Few Dutamas renovations have been published, and we won’t borrow Mont Kiara’s

In Dutamas, there is no cost index of its own; the only published records we know of for a building on this page are three by other firms at Agile Mont Kiara: 1,350 to 2,163 sq ft, RM150,000 to RM350,000, and 5 to 12 weeks on site.

If you’ve seen a Mont Kiara median quoted for a Dutamas building, treat it with care: it describes other towers.

Our own estimate for a new two-bedroom here, renovation and furniture before the design fee, is RM122k–226k at Curated finishes and RM264k–558k at Bespoke. Your contractors’ quotes on our drawings are the figures to plan with.

04Working together

Renovating a new Dutamas condo, when the developer sets the first rules

In Dutamas, a condo renovation needs the managing body’s written approval first, and in a new tower that may be the developer until the owners form a management corporation.

Sundays in Bed prepares the drawings and runs the project.

If your keys are still months away, your building may have no management body yet, and its renovation rules will arrive with the keys.

With Solasta’s 1,159 homes and The Fiddlewoodz’s 679 both waiting on keys, the service lifts and loading bays are likely to be in demand for months. So call us as soon as there’s a handover letter: the drawings can be ready before anyone is asked to approve them, and the defects reported before any work touches them.

Solasta’s homes are not spread evenly, either. Block C rises 42 storeys with 501 of them; Blocks A and B are 33 storeys with 329 each. In Block C, more neighbours share each lift booking, so we’d ask for a slot early.

Who says yes in Dutamas

We’d ask your building’s office for its rules before drawing anything it will need to approve.

  • The managing bodyThe developer, a JMB or an MC agrees in writing before work starts, and can set a deposit, working hours and a finishing date.
  • DBKLApproves, alongside the management, any move of plumbing, an external door or window, a safety feature or the whole electrical system. Its strata renovation procedure is dated 5 August 2023.
  • The developerRepairs defects reported in writing within 24 months of vacant possession. At Alix that likely runs to early 2027; at Agile it ended in July 2023.

None of these buildings publishes its renovation rules, so we ask each office before drawing, and book the service lift and loading bay with it. The full process

FAQ

Dutamas questions, answered

Do you design the Solaris Dutamas designer suites?

Yes, at the same fee per room. Its 800 designer suites, completed at the end of 2009, run from 672 to 1,238 sq ft, so most have had more than fifteen years of use. We haven’t written a guide to Solaris Dutamas yet, so we’d start from your floor plan and a site visit.

Can I turn two bedrooms into three at TuJu?

Possibly. Some TuJu plans mark the wall between two bedrooms as non-structural, so the room count can change. The management must agree in writing, and we’d confirm what the wall carries before drawing.

What does a lanai mean at The Fiddlewoodz?

The developer hasn’t defined it publicly. All eight layouts, in three sizes (an 889 sq ft two-bedroom, a 1,292 sq ft three-bedroom and a 3+1 of 1,469 to 1,476 sq ft), come in a balcony version and a lanai version, so check your sale agreement: it decides whether that space is furnished for the outdoors or as part of the living room.

Can you start before Solasta hands over?

Yes. By early October 2026 no source had confirmed its keys, so drawings made now will be ready when the management is. Report defects to the developer in writing first, before any work touches them.

How much does it cost to hire an interior designer in Dutamas?

In Dutamas that depends on how many rooms you ask us to design, not on the floor area. A three-bedroom at Residensi Solaris Parq with its kitchen and bathrooms kept comes to RM16,180–23,310, and a Miranda Hill 4+2 dual-key home, all six rooms and both kitchens, to RM34,005–41,135: RM3,565 a room and RM5,485 for open-plan living and dining, with the total agreed in writing before we begin.

What is a normal budget for interior design in Dutamas?

Little has been published in Dutamas: three renovations by other firms at Agile Mont Kiara, which ran from RM150,000 to RM350,000, are the only figures we’ve found for the buildings listed above. Our own estimate for a Residensi Solaris Parq three-bedroom, with its kitchen and bathrooms kept, comes to RM185k–323k with Curated finishes (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living), or RM371k–734k with Bespoke (Space Furniture, BoConcept, Molteni&C), for renovation and furniture before the design fee.

Do I need DBKL approval to renovate a Dutamas condo?

For some of the work, yes, but your building comes first. Its managing body, which in a new Dutamas tower may still be the developer, must agree in writing; DBKL’s approval is also needed for moved plumbing, a moved external door or window, a changed safety feature or a whole-home electrical change.

Can renovation work in a Dutamas tower happen on weekends?

That’s for the managing body to decide: working hours are one of the conditions it can attach to its written approval. In a Dutamas tower still waiting for keys, such as Solasta or The Fiddlewoodz, those rules may only arrive with the handover, so we’d ask the office before you commit to a contractor.

Which Dutamas homes are dual-key?

At Alix, Types A1 (1,615 sq ft), A2 (1,938 sq ft) and B2 (1,819 sq ft), each with an en-suite studio behind its own door off the foyer; at Miranda Hill, the 4+2 Types C and C-s; and at TuJu, Type E. Before we choose locks, sound separation or finishes, we’d ask who the second door is for: a parent, a grown child, guests or a tenant.

Is Jalan Duta still called Jalan Duta?

Not officially. DBKL renamed it Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim from 26 November 2014, and Persiaran Duta became Persiaran Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, with Pos Malaysia told so that post would still arrive. Older sale agreements and many listings keep the old names, so on a delivery note we give both.

Can I see homes you’ve designed before choosing you for a Dutamas condo?

Yes. The homes we can show you are at Regent Suites and DC Residensi in Damansara Heights, on our Damansara Heights page. Both came with their kitchens already installed, as many Dutamas homes do, so they show the joinery, lighting and furniture we’d add around a developer’s fit-out.

Where can I read reviews before hiring an interior designer in Dutamas?

On Google: the Read every review on Google link at the foot of this page opens them. The first call costs nothing, if you’d rather ask about your Dutamas tower directly.

What interior design services do you offer in Dutamas?

Every Dutamas building on this page is a tower, so we lead with condo interior design, from Solaris Dutamas to Miranda Hill. We draw the plans, compare contractors’ quotes with you and manage the works on site, and contractors do the building. Interior styling and our Procurement Concierge furnish the rooms, and Virtual Design is how we design homes outside Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
