Interior designer at Solaris Dutamas
Above the bustle of Publika, a Solaris Dutamas suite at rest.
Solaris Dutamas’s 800 suites sit above Publika’s shops and restaurants. We design them to feel calm the moment the door closes, with storage, light and kitchens planned around how you live.

Walnut, stone and one long pendant over the island. In a suite handed over with a full set of appliances, the kitchen is often the room most ready for a new start.

Solaris Dutamas floor plans, and what came with the suites
Solaris Dutamas has 800 serviced residences of about 672 to 1,238 sq ft in three towers above Publika.
Many were handed over with wardrobes, kitchen cabinets and a full set of appliances, so design here begins with what is already built in.
Sunrise launched Solaris Dutamas in April 2005 and completed it around the end of 2009 on a 17-acre freehold site, StarProperty records, with 1,000 office suites and 400 shops alongside the homes. The homes, sold as designer suites, are in three towers: Park with 288, Boulevard with 240 and Urbane with the remaining 272. We’re Sundays in Bed, a design studio in Bukit Damansara, and we agree our fee in writing before any design begins.
- 672–1,238 sq ftThe full range across the three towers, as StarProperty gives it
- About 1,060 sq ftTwo bedrooms and two bathrooms, from a 2016 EdgeProp sale report
- About 1,145–1,232 sq ftTwo-bedroom homes in recent listings
StarProperty doesn’t break sizes down by bedroom; the two-bedroom sizes come from a sale report and listings. We measure yours.
Handover fittings, and the building next door
StarProperty describes the suites as handed over well equipped: built-in wardrobes in the main bedroom and, in some types, the second room, kitchen cabinets with a hood, hob and oven, a fridge, a washing machine and a dryer, water heaters and air-conditioning listed as central. Most of that is still there in many homes, and some of it is worth keeping.
EdgeProp’s 2016 sale report puts it simply: the homes are located above a mall. Publika is the shopping gallery within Solaris Dutamas, so the restaurants, the supermarket and the evenings out are a lift ride away, and the home can be the quiet part of the day.
Residensi Solaris Parq is a different building: a newer development of 576 homes in two 41-storey towers on the final parcel of Solaris Dutamas, beside Publika. Its plans and its renovation questions are its own, so it has its own page.
Interior design ideas for a Solaris Dutamas suite
Living above a mall is lively by day.
A Solaris Dutamas suite feels right when the inside is the opposite: calm, well stored and softly lit.
If the handover kitchen is still in place
The kitchens came with cabinets, hob, hood, oven, fridge and laundry machines. Where the carcasses are sound, new doors, a stone worktop and light beneath the wall units renew the room without stripping it out; where they aren’t, a new kitchen can be planned on the same plumbing.
If you’d like the noise to stay outside
Lined curtains to the floor, a wool rug and upholstered pieces soften the sound of a building with shops beneath it. In the bedroom, a padded headboard wall helps the quiet as much as the comfort.
If you need somewhere to work
In a two-bedroom, the second room usually becomes the study. With a desk along the window and the built-in wardrobe kept for files and guests’ things, it can still take a sofa bed.
If the ceilings feel low
StarProperty lists central air-conditioning among the handover items. Where ducts run above the ceiling, they decide how low a new ceiling for lights must drop, so we find them before anything is drawn.

What interior design costs at Solaris Dutamas
For a two-bedroom Solaris Dutamas suite our design fee is an estimated RM16,180–19,745, or RM16,180–23,310 for the larger homes over 1,200 sq ft.
It pays for the design, is agreed in writing before we start, and renovation and furniture are budgeted separately.
- Each room we design
- RM3,565
- Living and dining
- RM5,485
This figure is our design fee. Renovation and furniture are their own budgets, set out below.
Bedrooms and the kitchen are RM3,565 each and the living and dining RM5,485 together, so a two-bedroom is three rooms plus the living space. The smallest suites, from about 672 sq ft, are priced the same way once we’ve seen the plan.
The upper figure adds a room, usually a bathroom, or two rooms in a home over 1,200 sq ft, such as both bathrooms.
2 bedrooms and the kitchen: 3 rooms at RM3,565, plus the living and dining at RM5,485.
Within each level, the lower figure covers the essentials; the upper figure adds extras such as a feature wall, LED strips and a kitchen island.
What the two levels mean
Curated. Melamine or laminate carpentry, quartz or sintered stone tops, the existing ceiling kept or a new plaster ceiling. Furniture from Commune, Cellini, Fella Design, Dezign District, Poet Living, Big Brain, Gudang, Crown Livin and Dadswood.
Bespoke. Detailed joinery, sintered stone tops, a plaster ceiling with detailing. Furniture from Space Furniture, Tekni, BoConcept, King Living, Ambient Living, Stanzo, Forest Furniture, Roche Bobois, XTRA, Urban Edge, Molteni&C, Nostaloft, Flexform, Janine and Chesters Collection.
How the fee works
If your kitchen has no wall between it and the living room, it is counted with the living and dining and the fee is RM3,565 less; the visit tells us. Payment is in stages, and an upgrade to a worktop or a veneer shows in the contractor’s quote, not in our fee. How our fees work
With our fee and Curated finishes and furniture (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living), a two-bedroom suite comes to about RM185k–310k in all.
| Home | Our fee | Curated | Bespoke |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 bedrooms about 1,060 sq ft | RM16,180–19,745 | RM169k–293k | RM337k–664k |
| 2 bedrooms about 1,232 sq ft | RM16,180–23,310 | RM169k–293k | RM337k–664k |
The lower fee is the two bedrooms, the kitchen and the living and dining. The upper adds a bathroom, or two rooms above 1,200 sq ft.
These are October 2026 estimates, not quotations; the quotation follows the visit.
How the renovation ranges are built
They price a resale home with new floors, wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, bedroom air-conditioners, a washer-dryer, hob and hood. Built-ins and appliances you keep from handover come off the figure.
No bathroom is in the lower figure; add the ones you’d redo in the calculator. Vanities are extra.

Working with an interior designer at Solaris Dutamas
One designer leads your Solaris Dutamas home from the first conversation to the finished rooms.
We design and supervise, contractors do the building, and you choose between them after we’ve compared their quotes together.
With homes stacked above a busy shopping gallery, access is part of the plan: materials and furniture come in when and how management allows, and noisy work keeps to its permitted hours. We settle all of it before the first delivery is booked, so the neighbours, and the shops below, hear as little as possible.
- First call FreeYour tower and plan, what you’d keep from the handover, and how you want the home to feel at the end of a day.
- The visit RM200, deducted if you go ahead with usWe measure, list the handover fittings still in place, and look at the air-conditioning, plumbing and wiring.
- Fee in writing, then the designLayout, kitchen, storage, lighting and the softer, quieter materials, room by room.
- Quotes side by sideContractors price the same drawings and management approves them in writing. We read the quotes through with you.
- Works, then styledWe supervise on site, see the deliveries in, and style the suite before you return.
A suite above a mall has more moving parts than its size suggests: access times, neighbours, the shops below. We keep them in hand, and you can ask what comes next at any point. The full process
Before works at Solaris Dutamas
Management gives the first approval, in writing, along with the deposit, the working hours and the forms. Solaris Dutamas’s renovation rules weren’t published when we looked, so we ask for the current set before contractors quote.
Dutamas is in DBKL’s area, and the council’s procedure for strata renovations covers structural work and moved plumbing. If you rent, your landlord’s written consent comes first.
Renovation at Solaris Dutamas, room by room
Many Solaris Dutamas suites still have their handover kitchens, bathrooms and wardrobes.
They needn’t all be renewed at once; we help you decide the order.
The building looks after much of the leisure. StarProperty lists a lap pool and a children’s wading pool, a gym, a multi-purpose hall that doubles as a badminton court, a games room and a barbecue pit, and Publika’s restaurants sit below. That leaves the suite free to do the everyday well: sleep, work, cook and put things away.
What to look at in a Solaris Dutamas suite
- KeepWardrobesBuilt-ins in the main and second bedrooms, where they are still sound
- AdaptKitchenNew fronts and tops on good carcasses, or a new layout on the same plumbing
- RenewBathroomsOriginal tiles and fittings, one bathroom at a time if you prefer
- CheckAir-conditioningThe central system and its ducts, before any new ceiling
Handover items from StarProperty’s profile. We check your suite on the visit.
If you plan to live in the suite through the works, the order matters: the bathroom you don’t use first, the kitchen in one concentrated stretch, and the bedrooms last.
FAQ
Interior design questions at Solaris Dutamas
What does it cost to renovate and furnish a Solaris Dutamas suite?
For a two-bedroom of about 1,060 sq ft, renovation and furniture come to roughly RM169k–293k with Curated pieces (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living), or RM337k–664k with Bespoke (Space Furniture, BoConcept, Molteni&C). Our design fee, an estimated RM16,180–19,745, is added to that.
What are the unit sizes at Solaris Dutamas?
About 672 to 1,238 sq ft built-up, StarProperty says. A 2016 EdgeProp sale report describes a two-bedroom, two-bathroom home of 1,060 sq ft, and recent listings show two-bedrooms of about 1,145 and 1,232 sq ft.
Is Solaris Dutamas the same as Solaris Parq?
No. Solaris Dutamas is the original development, with 800 serviced residences above Publika completed around the end of 2009. Residensi Solaris Parq is a newer, separate building of 576 homes in two 41-storey towers on the final parcel beside Publika, with its own page on our site.
Who developed Solaris Dutamas, and when was it completed?
Sunrise, now UEM Sunrise. It was launched in April 2005 and completed around the end of 2009, on a 17-acre freehold site off Jalan Duta that also holds office suites and Publika.
What came with a Solaris Dutamas suite at handover?
According to StarProperty: built-in wardrobes in the main bedroom and, in some types, the second room; kitchen cabinets with a hood, hob and oven; a fridge, washing machine and dryer; water heaters; and air-conditioning. Each home also came with a parking bay.
Which towers make up Solaris Dutamas?
Three: Park, with 288 homes, Boulevard, with 240, and Urbane, with the remaining 272, making 800 in all. Plans and fittings can differ a little from tower to tower, so we work from your own home.
How do you keep a Solaris Dutamas suite quiet?
With soft, heavy materials where sound travels: lined curtains to the floor, a wool rug, upholstered furniture and a padded headboard wall. If windows or doors are the weak point, we look at seals and secondary glazing with management.
Do I need approval to renovate at Solaris Dutamas?
Yes. Management approves first, in writing, and sets the deposit and hours; DBKL’s procedure for strata renovations covers structural or plumbing changes. Tenants need the landlord’s written consent before either.
Can I see a Solaris Dutamas suite you’ve designed?
Not yet; we haven’t designed one there. The kitchen with a breakfast counter on this page is in a home we designed at Bangsar Hill Park, in Bangsar.
What interior design services do you offer at Solaris Dutamas?
At Solaris Dutamas we redesign suites that still carry their handover fittings: kitchens, wardrobes, bathrooms, lighting and the quieter materials a home above a mall needs. We draw the plans, compare contractors’ quotes with you and manage the works on site, and contractors do the building. Interior styling is available without a full design, and Virtual Design serves homes outside Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
