Low blocks and lanais at Seri Duta, and a home renewed slowly.
Marble underfoot, a lanai for the evenings and gardens between the blocks of Seri Duta I and II. We help you decide what to keep, what to renew and in what order, then see it built.

A writing desk, a pleated lamp, books within reach. In many Seri Duta layouts the +1 room makes the quietest study in the home.

Seri Duta floor plans, block by block
Seri Duta is two neighbouring freehold condominiums in Taman Duta: Seri Duta I, 113 homes completed in 1994, and Seri Duta II, 96 homes completed in 1997.
Both are low-rise, and most of their homes measure 1,700 to 2,600 sq ft.
Sundays in Bed is a Bukit Damansara studio. At Seri Duta, as everywhere, the rooms we design and our fee are agreed in writing before any drawing starts.
Taman Duta is a quiet, hilly pocket beside Bukit Tunku, reached from Jalan Duta, Jalan Semantan and Jalan Tunku Putra. Neither Seri Duta rises above five storeys, so homes sit close to the trees and the gardens between the blocks.

Seri Duta I as MyRumahBaru lists it, Seri Duta II as StarProperty does. After three decades a home can differ from its plan, so we measure yours.
Two developments, one setting
StarProperty credits Seri Duta I to GDP Architects and records that it won a PAM Award in 1995, in the category for repetitive residential buildings. StarProperty describes about eight blocks in irregular shapes rather than straight rows, and a lanai in most homes. MyRumahBaru mentions Italian marble floors and built-in cupboards in its homes.
Seri Duta II followed in 1997. StarProperty describes its blocks of three to five storeys arranged around a long swimming pool, linked to one another, with planting in between. In both, the garden is part of every room, and a good design keeps it that way.
Interior design ideas for Seri Duta, from the lanai inward
At Seri Duta, the lanai, the original marble and the built-in cupboards are where a design begins.
Then come the kitchen and the bathrooms of a home built in the 1990s.
The lanai
StarProperty notes a lanai in most Seri Duta I homes. We treat it as a room: a ceiling fan, lighting rated for the outdoors, furniture in teak or rattan that copes with humid air, and planting that softens the view without blocking it. Where management allows, the floor can run through from inside so the two rooms read as one.
Marble floors from the 1990s
Italian marble, which MyRumahBaru mentions at Seri Duta I, is often worth keeping. Honing and polishing can bring back a floor that has dulled over thirty years; lifting it is slow, loud and costly. We replace stone only where it has cracked or where the layout itself changes.
Built-in cupboards
We open every original cupboard before deciding anything. Sound carcasses can take new doors, new handles and better fittings inside; tired ones come out, and the wall is planned again from the floor up.
Homes beside Jalan Duta
StarProperty’s review notes that homes beside Jalan Duta can hear the traffic. In those, we put the bedrooms on the quieter side where the plan allows, line the curtains, and look at better glazing if management agrees.
The duplex penthouses at Seri Duta I
Two floors of up to 3,050 sq ft turn on the stair. We light it properly, check what can be carried up it before anything is ordered, and decide early which floor holds the family’s day and which its night.
What interior design costs at Seri Duta
At Seri Duta our design fee is an estimated RM16,180–23,310 for a two-plus-one, RM19,745–26,875 for a three or three-plus-one, and RM23,310–30,440 for a four-plus-one or a duplex penthouse, in either block.
It is per room and agreed in writing before we begin.
- Each room we design
- RM3,565
- Living and dining
- RM5,485
Our fee is for the design service. Renovation and furniture are separate budgets, shown below.
Each bedroom and the kitchen count at RM3,565, and the living and dining together at RM5,485: those make the lower figure. The upper adds two rooms, typically the +1 fitted as a study and one of the bathrooms, since every home here is over 1,200 sq ft. With three or more bathrooms in most plans, the bathrooms you choose to redo are where the fee moves most.
Renovation and furniture are priced apart from the design, in the table below.
2 bedrooms and the kitchen: 3 rooms at RM3,565, plus the open-plan living and dining at RM5,485. The foyer and any yard or service area are designed free.
Within each level, the lower figure covers the essentials; the upper figure adds extras such as a feature wall, LED strips and a kitchen island.
What the two levels mean
Curated. Melamine or laminate carpentry, quartz or sintered stone tops, the existing ceiling kept or a new plaster ceiling. Furniture from Commune, Cellini, Fella Design, Dezign District, Poet Living, Big Brain, Gudang, Crown Livin and Dadswood.
Bespoke. Detailed joinery, sintered stone tops, a plaster ceiling with detailing. Furniture from Space Furniture, Tekni, BoConcept, King Living, Ambient Living, Stanzo, Forest Furniture, Roche Bobois, XTRA, Urban Edge, Molteni&C, Nostaloft, Flexform, Janine and Chesters Collection.
How the fee works
We agree the fee in writing and invoice it in stages. Choose a richer stone for the main bathroom and the contractor’s quote rises; our fee doesn’t. A kitchen opened to the dining room becomes part of the living space instead of a room of its own, RM3,565 less.
For a three-plus-one of about 1,950 sq ft, our fee with renovation and Curated furniture (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living) comes to roughly RM214k–356k.
| Home | Our fee | Curated | Bespoke |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 or 2+1 1,660–2,050 sq ft | RM16,180–23,310 | RM169k–293k | RM337k–664k |
| 3 or 3+1 1,700–2,300 sq ft | RM19,745–26,875 | RM194k–336k | RM383k–752k |
| 4 or 4+1 1,808–2,600 sq ft | RM23,310–30,440 | RM222k–408k | RM433k–901k |
| Duplex penthouse 2,830–3,050 sq ft | RM23,310–30,440 | RM223k–433k | RM436k–953k |
The lower figure covers the bedrooms, the kitchen and the living and dining. The higher adds two rooms, say the +1 as a study and a bathroom.
October 2026 estimates for either block, not a quotation.
How these figures are worked out
We’ve treated each home as a 1990s flat renewed throughout: new floors, wet areas redone, new kitchen cabinets and wardrobes in every bedroom. The ranges allow for split air-conditioning, cooking appliances and a washer-dryer, but not vanities. Keep and restore the marble and the floor figure falls.

Your Seri Duta interior designer, first visit to last delivery
From the first visit to the styling at the end, one designer looks after your Seri Duta home.
We plan the rooms and manage the site; contractors build, and you choose them once we have been through their quotes together.
Low blocks make some things simpler and others slower. Materials travel shorter distances, but the gardens and paths between the blocks are shared and easily damaged, so we agree a route for deliveries and protect it before the first lorry arrives.
StarProperty notes that access now runs through the Jalan Taman Duta entrance, so we time deliveries away from the busier hours on that road and keep the contractor’s vehicles to the bays management allows.

- Built, checked and styledWe follow the works, check each room against its drawing, and style the home before you return.
A home from the 1990s will raise questions once the floors are opened and the old cupboards come out. We answer them as they arise, and you can ask what comes next whenever you like. The full process
Consent first, at either Seri Duta
Seri Duta I and Seri Duta II are separate developments, so we go to the right management office for its renovation rules, deposit and working hours. We haven’t found either set published, so we ask before we quote.
Work on walls, plumbing or the façade can also need a city permit. Your contractor applies for it, and we tell you at the first meeting whether yours will.
Renovating a Seri Duta home for the household it holds now
A home completed in 1994 or 1997 has often seen more than one household.
We design for the people living in it today.
Parents moving in may need a bathroom with no step and a seat in the shower. A household with a helper may want the +1 room given proper light, air and storage. Grown children leaving can free a bedroom for a library or a room for guests, and the lanai can become the sitting room it was always meant to be.

Is Seri Duta in Bukit Tunku or Taman Duta?
Taman Duta. Seri Duta I is off Jalan Gallagher and Seri Duta II on Jalan Langgak Duta, both beside Bukit Tunku, which is why property sites often file them under Bukit Tunku or Kenny Hills.
Should I keep the marble floors at Seri Duta?
Often, yes. Where the stone is sound, honing and polishing bring it back for far less than replacing it, and without weeks of noise. We replace marble where it has cracked or where the layout changes.
How do you design the lanai at Seri Duta I?
As a room of its own: a ceiling fan, outdoor-rated lighting, teak or rattan furniture that copes with humidity, and planting that frames the garden. StarProperty notes a lanai in most Seri Duta I homes.
Do I need approval to renovate at Seri Duta I or II?
Yes. Each development’s management gives written consent before work starts, and wall, plumbing or façade changes can need a permit, applied for by your contractor. We ask the office for its current rules first.
Can I see a home you’ve designed at Seri Duta?
Not yet. Sundays in Bed hasn’t designed a home at Seri Duta I or II, and this page doesn’t suggest otherwise. On the first call we can show you our work elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur.
What interior design services do you offer at Seri Duta?
At Seri Duta I and II our condo interior design is usually the renewal of a 1990s low-rise home, from the lanai and the marble to the kitchen and three or four bathrooms. We draw the plans, compare contractors’ quotes with you and manage the works on site, and contractors do the building. Interior styling is available without a full design, and Virtual Design looks after homes outside Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
