Interior designer at Mont Kiara Pelangi

Mont Kiara Pelangi, and a home gathered in your own colours.

Pelangi is Malay for rainbow, and these homes take colour well. Bare, part-furnished or full of someone else’s things, your flat is styled with the rugs, lamps, textiles and art that make it yours, all of it free to travel when you do. No renovation, only rooms that look like the people in them.

A sunlit living room: an oatmeal corner sofa with rust and brown cushions, a dark stone coffee table, a boucle armchair and a timber lounge chair on a deep rust rug, a pleated floor lamp and sheer curtains across tall windows

Rust, oatmeal and dark timber, held together by one big rug. In a rented home, colour sits most happily in things you can roll up and take.

01Making it feel like home

Making Mont Kiara Pelangi feel like home: floor plans and colour

Mont Kiara Pelangi is mainly three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes of about 1,200 to 1,390 sq ft, with a few four-bedroom penthouses.

Styling one is mostly a matter of colour and light: what to bring in, and where to let it rest.

Sunrise built Pelangi as two 27-storey towers, Apollo and Venus, and linked them with a landscaped sky bridge that StarProperty describes as holding a restaurant and business centre. Its management corporation has since renewed both lobbies, the gym and the playground.

  • About 1,200–1,290 sq ftThree bedrooms, two bathrooms
  • About 1,390 sq ftThree bedrooms, two bathrooms, the largest standard plan
  • PenthousesFour bedrooms, size not published

MyRumahBaru lists Types A, B and C as three bedrooms and two bathrooms; sizes come from StarProperty and listings. We measure yours before planning anything.

Starting with colour, not furniture

A three-bedroom of this size carries one strong colour well, and two at most. We usually let the largest rug set it, then pick it up in a cushion, a lampshade and one piece of art, so the room reads as a whole.

Built-in wardrobes and the kitchen cabinets set the background tones. We match timber to timber rather than fight it, and keep the bolder colour for the things you will pack when you leave.

The second and third bedrooms often have two jobs: a child’s room with a desk, a guest room that is also where the ironing happens. Give each a lamp, a rug and somewhere for things to go, and it stops being the room nobody uses.

02Styling a home

Styling a rented Mont Kiara Pelangi home, room by room

In a rented Mont Kiara Pelangi flat, you can bring in, rearrange or swap anything that isn’t attached.

Paint, new light points, shelves on brackets and built-ins need the owner’s agreement in writing, and then management’s.

A flat let with furniture

We walk the flat with you before buying anything and agree what to keep. A dining set for six usually stays. A dark, heavy sofa can stay too, lifted with lighter cushions and a throw, if the landlord would rather not take it back.

Paint, nails and the deposit

Ask before painting, even one wall; many owners agree to a soft colour if you offer to repaint at the end. Where the answer is no, colour moves to textiles: curtains on the existing tracks, a large rug, a headboard in fabric.

Moving in with children

StarProperty places Pelangi near Mont Kiara International School and Garden International School, and many moves follow the school calendar. Children’s rooms are done first, with blackout curtains and a reading lamp in place before the sofa arrives.

Buying for this flat and the next

We pick pieces that suit a 1,300 sq ft flat now and a different plan later: a sofa that isn’t built as a corner, nesting tables, a sideboard that would also sit well in a bedroom. Rugs come in standard sizes, so they travel.

Owners preparing to let

Owners furnishing a Pelangi flat for a new tenant can keep the joinery and replace only the loose pieces, with a colour scheme that photographs warmly. If the bathrooms or kitchen need works, see Furnishing to let below.

03How does styling work?

How styling works at Mont Kiara Pelangi, step by step

A Mont Kiara Pelangi project has one stylist throughout.

We plan each room and the colours that tie them together, you buy from our lists, and we come back to set it all out once it has arrived.

Allow four to twelve weeks for made-to-order pieces, then a week or two of styling. The slow orders go in first, so the waiting happens while you are still settling in.

Deliveries at Pelangi go through management. We ask which lift to use in Apollo or Venus, the booking hours and whether a deposit is needed, before any delivery date is set.

  1. Talking it through Free
Who is moving in, what the flat came with, colours you love or can’t live with, and when you need it ready.
  2. A visit to Pelangi RM200, credited if you go ahead
We measure, note how the light moves through each room, and list what stays, moves or goes back.
  3. A written scope and fee
The rooms and fee agreed, then layouts, a colour plan and buying lists, ordered from slowest to quickest.
  4. Ordering
You buy when it suits you; we check each delivery against the list so nothing is missing on the day.
  5. Setting the rooms
On install day your stylist arranges the furniture, hangs the art, layers the cushions and dresses the beds.

Two towers, one sky bridge and a moving date: there are a few moving parts, and we keep track of them so you don’t have to.

Interior styling The full process

04How much does styling cost?

What styling costs at Mont Kiara Pelangi

Styling a Mont Kiara Pelangi three-bedroom costs an estimated RM7,780–11,210.

Each bedroom is RM1,715 and the living and dining RM2,635; the higher figure adds two more rooms. A four-bedroom penthouse is about RM9,495–12,925. We confirm the fee in writing first.

Three bedrooms with the living and dining give the starting figure. Most Pelangi homes are just over 1,200 sq ft, so the upper figure takes in two extra rooms, often a dressing area and the balcony, each dressed as a room in its own right. A small room and a large one cost the same.

In figures: RM1,715 × 3 is RM5,145, plus RM2,635 for the living and dining, makes RM7,780; two more rooms make RM11,210. For four bedrooms, RM6,860 plus RM2,635 is RM9,495, and RM12,925 with two more.

Estimates as of October 2026, confirmed in a written quotation after the visit. The furniture itself is a separate budget, set by you.

What styling includes

It starts with a conversation, at Pelangi or by video, about how you live and what you have. On the visit we measure and note what can stay. You then get a plan for each room we style: where each piece sits, the colour palette, and a shopping list for furniture, lighting, textiles and art. When the last delivery is in, your stylist spends the install day putting it all in place.

Interior styling

05Want more than styling?

Want more than styling at Mont Kiara Pelangi?

For many Mont Kiara Pelangi homes, furniture and colour are enough.

For others, the furniture is fine but the bathrooms or the kitchen are showing their years.

Tiles that have dulled, a kitchen with too little worktop, wardrobes with no room for long coats. Styling can soften these; only design changes them.

We help you decide what is worth renovating now, what can wait, and what can stay as it is, room by room.

Styling dresses the home as it is. Interior design changes the home itself, in the rooms that need it.

06What does interior design cover?

Interior design at Mont Kiara Pelangi, for a longer stay

Mont Kiara Pelangi’s three-bedroom plans are compact and easy to live in, so a renovation rarely moves walls.

It usually renews the kitchen and bathrooms and rethinks storage, and it can be done one room at a time.

Many households start with the bathrooms: used most, renewed least.

What a Mont Kiara Pelangi renovation usually covers

  • KeepLayoutThree bedrooms around two bathrooms, a plan that works as built
  • AdaptWardrobesNew doors, inner fittings and lighting where the carcasses are sound
  • RenewBaths, kitchenThe hardest-working rooms, and often the oldest finishes

Renovation rules at Mont Kiara Pelangi

Pelangi is run by the Mont Kiara Pelangi Management Corporation, which approves works inside each home. Its renovation rules are not published, so we request the current version, with the deposit, permitted hours and forms, before contractors are asked to quote.

Sundays in Bed hasn’t designed a Pelangi home yet; on the first call we are glad to walk you through homes we have designed elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur.

Before any works at Mont Kiara Pelangi

Three sign-offs may be needed, in this order: the owner’s, in writing, if you rent; the management corporation’s; and, for structural or larger jobs, a council permit, which the contractor applies for.

We tell you which apply on the visit. Moving pipes or removing a wall usually means all three; styling means none.

Interior design fees at Mont Kiara Pelangi

07How much does interior design cost?

What interior design costs at Mont Kiara Pelangi

Sundays in Bed’s design fee for a Mont Kiara Pelangi three-bedroom is an estimated RM19,745–26,875, and RM23,310–30,440 for a four-bedroom penthouse.

It is for the design service, agreed in writing; renovation and furniture are separate budgets.

Each room we design
RM3,565
Living and dining
RM5,485

This is our fee for the design. Renovation and furniture are their own budgets, shown below.

We charge RM3,565 for each bedroom and for the kitchen, and RM5,485 for the living and dining as one room. That makes RM19,745 for three bedrooms and RM23,310 for four. Add two rooms, say both bathrooms, and they become RM26,875 and RM30,440.

Rooms you only want styled, alongside a design project, are charged at half the styling rate.

Our design fee, estimated

3 bedrooms and the kitchen: 4 rooms at RM3,565, plus the open-plan living and dining at RM5,485. The foyer and any yard or service area are designed free.

BespokeRM383,000 to RM752,000

Within each level, the lower figure covers the essentials; the upper figure adds extras such as a feature wall, LED strips and a kitchen island.

What the two levels mean

Curated. Melamine or laminate carpentry, quartz or sintered stone tops, the existing ceiling kept or a new plaster ceiling. Furniture from Commune, Cellini, Fella Design, Dezign District, Poet Living, Big Brain, Gudang, Crown Livin and Dadswood.

Bespoke. Detailed joinery, sintered stone tops, a plaster ceiling with detailing. Furniture from Space Furniture, Tekni, BoConcept, King Living, Ambient Living, Stanzo, Forest Furniture, Roche Bobois, XTRA, Urban Edge, Molteni&C, Nostaloft, Flexform, Janine and Chesters Collection.

How the fee works

The kitchen counts as a room on its own. Where it has been opened into the dining area, it folds into the living and dining and the fee is RM3,565 lower; the visit settles it. We invoice in stages, and a more expensive tile changes the contractor’s figure, not our fee.

Add works and furniture at Curated (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living) to our fee, and a 1,300 sq ft three-bedroom comes to roughly RM214k–356k.

How we reached these numbers

Both homes are costed as older flats getting new flooring. The two bathrooms are left out of the lower figure, and the calculator adds them back if you want them.

Each range carries wardrobes, kitchen units, air-conditioning for the bedrooms, a washer-dryer and the hob and hood, minus anything you keep. Vanities come on top.

Furnishing to let?

Readying a Pelangi flat for tenants? If it only needs furniture, styling covers it. Where works are needed too, Essential, furnished from Ikea, SSF Home or Harvey Norman, is practical, fast to install and easy to refresh between lets; our fee doesn’t change with the level.

FAQ

Styling and interior design questions at Mont Kiara Pelangi

How do you style a furnished Mont Kiara Pelangi flat?

By editing first. In a Mont Kiara Pelangi flat we go through what the landlord left, keep the useful pieces, and add colour through rugs, cushions, lamps and art before replacing anything large.

Can I paint or put up shelves in a rented Mont Kiara Pelangi home?

Only with the owner’s written agreement, and management’s for anything beyond a picture hook. Without it, a Mont Kiara Pelangi flat still takes colour through curtains on the existing tracks, rugs, a fabric headboard and art on a ledge.

What does styling cost at Mont Kiara Pelangi?

An estimated RM7,780–11,210 for a three-bedroom and RM9,495–12,925 for a four-bedroom penthouse at Mont Kiara Pelangi: RM1,715 per bedroom, RM2,635 for the living and dining, and up to two more rooms in the higher figure. Furniture is extra.

What do I get when you style a Mont Kiara Pelangi home?

A first conversation, a visit to measure, a colour plan, a layout and shopping list for each room, and an install day with your stylist. At Mont Kiara Pelangi you can choose one room or the whole flat.

How quickly can a Mont Kiara Pelangi flat be styled?

The install takes a week or two; the deliveries before it often take four to twelve weeks. At Mont Kiara Pelangi we order the slowest pieces first and finish the children’s rooms ahead of the living room.

Which colours suit a Mont Kiara Pelangi home?

The ones you will enjoy living with, kept to one strong colour and a softer second. In a Mont Kiara Pelangi three-bedroom we let the main rug set the palette and repeat it in a few smaller things.

What are the floor plans at Mont Kiara Pelangi?

Mostly three bedrooms and two bathrooms of about 1,200 to 1,390 sq ft (Types A, B and C), plus four-bedroom penthouses. Mont Kiara Pelangi has about 300 homes in two 27-storey towers, Apollo and Venus.

Is Mont Kiara Pelangi the same as Pelangi Mont Kiara?

Yes. Mont Kiara Pelangi is the name the building is listed under, and Pelangi Mont Kiara is simply the way many people search for it. It is a freehold condominium by Sunrise, now UEM Sunrise, completed in 1994.

Do I need styling or interior design for my Mont Kiara Pelangi home?

Styling, if the flat works and needs to feel like yours. Interior design, if a Mont Kiara Pelangi kitchen, bathroom or wardrobe needs replacing. You can begin with one and add the other later.

What does interior design cost at Mont Kiara Pelangi?

An estimated RM19,745–26,875 for a three-bedroom and RM23,310–30,440 for four bedrooms, agreed in writing. Works and furniture are separate: about RM194k–336k at Curated (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living) for a 1,300 sq ft Mont Kiara Pelangi three-bedroom.

Who approves renovation at Mont Kiara Pelangi?

The Mont Kiara Pelangi Management Corporation approves works inside each home, and tenants need the owner’s written consent first. Its rules are not published, so we ask for the current copy before any quote.

What interior design services do you offer at Mont Kiara Pelangi?

At Mont Kiara Pelangi we style three-bedroom homes and penthouses room by room, and design bathrooms, kitchens and wardrobes for households staying on. We draw the plans, compare contractors’ quotes with you and manage the works on site, and contractors do the building. Styling is also offered on its own, and Virtual Design looks after homes outside Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
