Interior designer at Astana Mont Kiara
Settling into Astana Mont Kiara, one room at a time.
Just arrived, or here for years and still living around the boxes, we’ll help the rooms catch up with you. Furniture, lamps, rugs and art, placed around how your days actually run and chosen so they can move with you. No works, no waiting on permits.

A bench at the foot of the bed, a woven rug, an armchair by the curtains. Every piece is loose, so the room can be rearranged, or packed, whenever life moves on.

Making Astana Mont Kiara feel like home: floor plans and styling
Styling an Astana Mont Kiara home begins with the rooms as they are, then adds the furniture, lighting, rugs and art that make them yours, with no works.
There are two kinds of home here, shown below.
In a building of Astana’s age, a home has often had more than one household before yours. Whether it came empty, half furnished or with a previous owner’s sofa still facing the wrong wall, our first job is to see what is already there, and what it is asking for.
Astana, sometimes listed as Mont Kiara Astana, is one of the Sunrise condominiums that shaped the neighbourhood, alongside Mont Kiara Bayu, Mont Kiara Pelangi and Laman Suria. Its two blocks hold two kinds of home.
- 1,241–1,690 sq ftStandard: three bedrooms
- 2,779–2,999 sq ftSuper Deluxe: four bedrooms and a maid’s room
Built-up areas as StarProperty lists them. Plans vary from stack to stack, so the tape measure has the final word.
What came with the home, and what to keep
StarProperty notes that every Astana home came with air-conditioning, and that the Super Deluxe homes have cornices in the living and dining room. Some of that will have been replaced since.
Both shape the styling. The air-conditioners decide where the long sofa can’t go, because nobody wants cold air down their neck all evening. Cornices suit curtains hung high, close to the ceiling, which makes a room read taller and lets the window look wider than it is.
In a Standard home, the third bedroom is the room to settle first: a guest room, a study, or a room for the children to grow into. In a Super Deluxe, it is the maid’s room, which we size up before suggesting a study, a store for suitcases, or a laundry and ironing room.
Styling a rented Astana Mont Kiara home
Renting at Astana Mont Kiara, almost everything loose is yours to change: sofas, beds, rugs, lamps, curtains and art.
Drilling, hacking and built-ins are the landlord’s call, in writing, and then management’s.
If the home came furnished
Furnished Astana homes tend to carry the choices of a landlord who furnished for everyone. We go through them with you: the solid dining table may earn its place, the oversized sofa in a three-bedroom of around 1,300 sq ft may not. Swapping it for a smaller one and a pair of chairs usually frees a corner for a desk or a reading lamp.
Anything you’d rather not live with goes on a return list for your landlord, as your tenancy allows.
Reading your tenancy before we plan
The clauses on furnishing and alterations decide the plan. Freestanding things are fine. A nail, a curtain rod or a floating shelf leaves a hole, so ask first; anything that cuts into a wall, a pipe or a wire needs a signed yes from the landlord and then management’s approval.
If the answer is no, we plan around it: art propped on a sideboard, a standing shelf, lamps on the floor and tables, curtains on the track that is already there.
Arriving to a date
If your move is tied to a school term or a start date, tell us on the first call. The pieces with the longest wait, beds and sofas, are decided first; the main bedroom is made up before anything else, so the first night is a calm one.
Buying for the next home as well
For anyone at Astana for a posting of a few years, we buy with the move after this one in mind: a rug and lamps that suit any room, a table that extends, very little cut to fit.
Owners letting an Astana home
Between tenants, styling can refresh an Astana home with no works at all; if it needs more, see the note on furnishing to let lower down.
How styling works at Astana Mont Kiara, step by step
One stylist sees an Astana Mont Kiara home through from the first conversation to the day the last picture is hung.
We plan, you decide what to buy, and the styling happens once it is all here.
The styling visit itself is one to two weeks. New furniture is the slow part: four to twelve weeks for most deliveries, so whatever has the longest wait is chosen first.
Astana has two blocks and shared lifts, so before the sofa is booked we find out from management how deliveries are scheduled.
- A conversation about your days FreeWho’s moving in, what arrived with the home, what is still in transit, and the night you’d like to sleep there.
- Measuring up RM200, which comes off the fee if you go aheadEach room taped, the third bedroom or maid’s room sized up, and every existing piece marked keep, move or return.
- Your fee, then your planThe rooms and the fee are put in writing first. A placement plan and shopping list per room follow, slowest items at the top.
- BuyingOrder from the list yourself, or let our Procurement Concierge do it. Either way we track what has landed.
- Setting upWith everything in, your stylist arranges each room: furniture in place, pictures up, lamps on, beds made.
A landlord’s inventory, a container on its way and a school term to work around: we hold all of it in one list, and you can ask where things stand whenever you like.
What styling costs at Astana Mont Kiara
Our styling fee at Astana Mont Kiara is an estimated RM7,780–11,210 for a Standard three-bedroom and RM9,495–12,925 for a Super Deluxe.
Each styled room is RM1,715, the open-plan living and dining RM2,635, and the total is agreed in writing first.
Start with the bedrooms plus the living and dining: that is the lower figure. If you’d like two more spaces done, perhaps the kitchen and the entrance, or the Super Deluxe’s maid’s room as a study, that is the upper one. Every room costs the same to style whatever its size, and none comes free.
| Home | Rooms in the lower figure | Lower figure | Plus two rooms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard 1,241–1,690 sq ft | Three bedrooms, living and dining | RM7,780 | RM11,210 |
| Super Deluxe 2,779–2,999 sq ft | Four bedrooms, living and dining | RM9,495 | RM12,925 |
Standard: three rooms at RM1,715 and the living and dining at RM2,635 make RM7,780; two extra rooms bring it to RM11,210. Super Deluxe: four rooms plus the living and dining make RM9,495, and two extra rooms RM12,925.
Estimates as of October 2026, before any quotation. The furniture itself is a separate spend, chosen from a shortlist pitched at your budget.
What you get for the fee
We talk first, by video if you’re still abroad, over your photos and the plan. Then we come to measure and to see what is staying. For each room you choose, you get a placement plan, where each piece sits and how high the art hangs, and a shopping list of the lighting, textiles and finishing pieces. When the deliveries are in, your stylist comes back and sets the rooms up.
Would you rather not handle the orders? Our Procurement Concierge can buy, chase and receive them for you.
Want more than styling at Astana Mont Kiara?
Sometimes the furniture is all an Astana Mont Kiara home needs.
Other times the sofa is fine, but the kitchen and bathrooms are still the ones the building was finished with.
The wardrobes are short of hanging space. The air-conditioning hums louder each year. That’s where interior design comes in.
Together we sort what stays, what goes and what deserves doing properly, whether it is a single bathroom or every room in the plan.
Styling changes what is in the rooms. Interior design changes the rooms themselves.
Interior design at Astana Mont Kiara, for a longer stay
Astana Mont Kiara’s homes sit in award-winning grounds, and the Super Deluxe plans are generous.
But a quarter of a century after completion, original kitchens, bathrooms and wardrobes may be ready for a rethink.
If the furniture isn’t the problem, we can plan the bigger changes, one room at a time if that’s easier to live with.
For a Standard home that might mean a kitchen that holds more, or wardrobes rebuilt to the ceiling. For a Super Deluxe, a main bathroom you look forward to, or the maid’s room reworked as a study.
What an Astana Mont Kiara renovation usually covers
- KeepPlan, cornicesThe room layout works, and the Super Deluxe cornices are worth keeping
- AdaptWardrobesSound carcasses can take new doors, lighting and inner fittings
- RenewKitchen, bathsThe rooms most often redone in a home of this age, one at a time if you prefer
- CheckCoolingOlder air-conditioners and their pipe runs, before any new ceiling goes up
Renovation rules at Astana Mont Kiara
Astana’s house rules for renovation aren’t published anywhere we could find. We ask management for the current version, with the deposit, the permitted working hours and the application forms, before anyone quotes. Astana would be a first for us; on the call we show you homes we’ve designed in other parts of Kuala Lumpur instead.
Before any works at Astana Mont Kiara
Works at Astana need sign-off from up to three parties. A tenant needs the landlord’s written consent before anything else; every home needs management’s approval under its renovation rules; and some jobs also need a local authority permit, which your contractor obtains.
Plumbing that moves, walls that come down and anything touching the structure tend to need all three, so they’re the first thing we ask about. Styling, with nothing attached to a wall, needs none.
What interior design costs at Astana Mont Kiara
Designing an Astana Mont Kiara home costs an estimated RM19,745–26,875 in Sundays in Bed fees for a Standard three-bedroom, and RM23,310–30,440 for a Super Deluxe.
That covers our design work only, agreed in writing; the renovation and the furniture are budgeted separately.
- Each room we design
- RM3,565
- Living and dining
- RM5,485
This is the design fee alone. Building work and furniture are budgeted below.
A typical Astana brief designs every bedroom and the kitchen, at RM3,565 each, and the living and dining as one open space at RM5,485. In a Standard home that is four rooms and the living space, RM19,745; a Super Deluxe has five rooms, RM23,310. Add two rooms, a bathroom and a study for instance, for the upper figures of RM26,875 and RM30,440.
With interior design, our Procurement Concierge comes included, and rooms that only want styling are styled at half price.
3 bedrooms and the kitchen: 4 rooms at RM3,565, plus the open-plan living and dining at RM5,485. The foyer and any yard or service area are designed free.
In each level, the lower end is the essentials and the upper end adds extras such as a feature wall or a kitchen island.
What the two levels mean
Curated. Laminate or melamine joinery, quartz or sintered stone worktops, and furniture from makers such as Commune, Cellini and Poet Living.
Bespoke. Detailed joinery and stone, a plaster ceiling with detail, and furniture from Space Furniture, BoConcept and Molteni&C.
How the fee works
The kitchen counts as a room when it has its own door. If yours opens onto the dining area at Astana, take RM3,565 off; the visit settles which it is. You pay in stages, and the fee stays as agreed even if you pick a dearer stone.
Our fee plus a Curated renovation and furniture (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living) comes to roughly RM214k–356k for a 1,241 sq ft Standard home.
| Home | Our fee | Curated | Bespoke |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard 1,241–1,690 sq ft | RM19,745–26,875 | RM194k–336k | RM383k–752k |
| Super Deluxe 2,779–2,999 sq ft | RM23,310–30,440 | RM222k–408k | RM433k–901k |
Curated furniture comes from Commune, Cellini and Poet Living; Bespoke from Space Furniture, BoConcept and Molteni&C. Both columns exclude our fee.
Estimates as of October 2026, not a quotation.
Behind the Astana figures
We price an Astana home as an older one, with the floors replaced. Bathrooms are left out of the lower figure; choose the ones you’d redo in the calculator.
The ranges allow for wardrobes, the kitchen, air-conditioners in the bedrooms, a washer-dryer, a hob and a hood. Keep any of those and the figure drops. Vanities are extra.
Furnishing to let?
Getting an Astana home ready for new tenants? Styling alone may do it. If there is work to do too, our Essential level, with furniture from Ikea, SSF Home or Harvey Norman, is quick to install and stands up to turnover. The design fee doesn’t change with the level.
Essential renovation and furniture, excluding our fee
- Standard
- RM108k–167k
- Super Deluxe
- RM124k–203k

Can I style a rented Astana Mont Kiara home without the landlord’s permission?
