Interior designer at Rhombus

Four bedrooms at Rhombus, and every one of them yours.

Rhombus homes came furnished from the developer, so the question on arrival is rarely what to buy. It’s what to keep. We edit what’s there, then bring in the pieces that make a 4,000 sq ft home feel like yours, without a single wall touched.

01Making it feel like home

Making Rhombus feel like home: Bangsar floor plans and styling

At Rhombus, styling begins by editing the furniture the home came with, then adding what suits the family living there now.

Each home is about 4,000 sq ft, so scale matters as much as taste.

Beneton Properties built Rhombus on Jalan Penaga, high on a hill above Bangsar, and named it for its rhomboid footprint. There are just 25 homes, two per floor, each reached through its own lobby, with one penthouse occupying the top floor. Architects gave it PAM’s 2013 Gold for high-rise multiple housing, FIABCI Malaysia named it 2014’s residential high-rise Building of the Year, and it holds Green Building Index certification.

Furnished at handover: keep, move or let go

Beneton delivered these homes ready to live in, with furniture, fittings and a kitchen complete with its appliances. Fifteen years later, some of that original furniture is still in place and some has been replaced, so every home is a little different.

We go room by room and decide with you. Built-in pieces stay and shape the plan. Developer or previous-owner pieces that still work can move to where they suit better. The rest makes way for what you bring and what you’d like to add.

Three-metre ceilings change the arithmetic. Curtains should start near the ceiling rather than at the window head, floor lamps need real height, and a picture that looks large in the shop can look small here. We size art and lighting for the room, not the catalogue.

Beneton designed the balconies as sunshades, so daylight indoors is soft and even. That suits linen, wool and timber, which look most at ease in diffused light. The dining area was planned for several generations at once; a table for eight or ten belongs here.

02Styling a home

Styling a rented Rhombus home in Bangsar

If you rent at Rhombus, everything free-standing is yours to change: furniture, rugs, lighting, curtains, art.

Attaching anything to walls or ceilings needs your landlord’s written agreement, then management’s.

When the landlord’s furniture is still there

Because Rhombus homes were handed over furnished, yours may still hold some of the original pieces. We photograph and list it all, then agree with you which pieces stay, which change rooms and which you’d like your landlord to store or remove.

The good news: in rooms this size, two or three well-chosen additions, a large rug, a pair of lamps, one strong painting, often shift the whole feel without replacing anything big.

What your lease is likely to say

Look at the inventory schedule and the alterations clause. Free-standing pieces are fine. Anything that leaves a hole, from picture hooks to curtain tracks, usually needs consent, and structural or electrical changes need it in writing plus management approval.

Tall walls make ledges and leaning art easy: a long console with two large canvases propped against the wall looks deliberate rather than temporary.

Settling in before the shipment arrives

We work back from your move-in date. Bedrooms first, so you sleep well from night one; the big living-room pieces ordered early because they take longest; accessories last. If your own furniture is in transit, we plan the rooms around it so nothing is bought twice.

Choosing pieces for life after Rhombus

Few future homes will have a living room this big. We lean towards modular sofas that can be split, rugs in sizes that work elsewhere, and lamps and art that move anywhere, and steer clear of furniture made to fit one wall.

Letting the home between tenancies

Between tenancies, a Rhombus home often needs refreshing rather than renovating. We keep the kitchen and built-ins, update the loose furniture and finish each room for the next tenant. Homes that need works too are covered in Furnishing to let below.

03How does styling work?

Styling at Rhombus, from first call to install day

One stylist stays with your Rhombus home from the opening conversation to the last cushion.

We plan, you approve each purchase, and we arrange everything once the deliveries are complete.

The styling work itself runs one to two weeks. If you’re buying new furniture, expect four to twelve weeks of lead time, which is why the large orders go in first.

With only 25 homes in the block, a delivery is easy to schedule, but we still confirm the hours and lift booking with management, and check that the sofa and table will clear the lift and doorways, before anything is ordered.

  1. A first conversation Free

  2. Measuring the rooms RM200, deducted from the fee if you go ahead
Every room measured, ceiling height included, and each existing piece marked keep, move or remove.
  3. Agreeing the fee and the plan
We confirm rooms and fee in writing, then send a placement plan and a buying list for each room, longest lead times first.
  4. Sourcing
Buy from our list yourself or hand it to our Procurement Concierge, who places orders and books deliveries. We track arrivals either way.
  5. Install day
When the last delivery lands, your stylist sets out every room in person: furniture placed, art hung, lamps lit, beds dressed.

Original furniture to keep track of, a shipment and a move-in date: we hold the list so you don’t have to, and you can check progress with us at any point.

04How much does styling cost?

What styling costs at Rhombus

Styling a Rhombus 4+1 is estimated at RM9,495–12,925.

That’s RM1,715 for each bedroom and RM2,635 for the open living and dining, confirmed in writing before we begin.

At the lower figure we style the four bedrooms with the living and dining. The upper figure adds two more rooms, perhaps the maid’s room turned into a study and a dressing room. Every styled room carries a fee, and size doesn’t change it.

Estimated styling fee at Rhombus
HomeRooms in the lower figureLower figureWith more rooms
4+1 about 4,000 sq ftFour bedrooms, living and diningRM9,495RM12,925

The sum: four bedrooms at RM1,715 each plus RM2,635 gives RM9,495. Two more rooms at RM1,715 take it to RM12,925. If your living and dining are separate rooms, each is RM1,715. The penthouse is quoted after we’ve seen it.

These are October 2026 estimates and not a quote. Furniture is bought separately, from a shortlist pitched at your budget.

Inside the styling fee

An initial call, a measuring visit, and for each room a placement plan and buying list covering furniture, lighting, textiles and art. Once everything has arrived, a day on site while your stylist puts it all in place.

Our Procurement Concierge can take over ordering and delivery coordination if you prefer.

Interior styling

05Want more than styling?

Want more than styling at Rhombus?

Often, rearranging and adding furniture is all a Rhombus home needs.

Sometimes the 2011 kitchen or bathrooms are the real issue.

The original wardrobes may suit someone else’s way of dressing. A bathroom may feel its age. Those are jobs for interior design.

We’ll help you see which rooms to change and which to leave alone, whether that’s one bathroom or a plan for the whole floor.

Styling works with the home you have. Interior design reshapes it where it needs to.

06What does interior design cover?

Interior design at Rhombus, when home needs a little more

Rhombus homes already have what renovation can’t add: big rooms, three-metre ceilings and a private lobby.

After fifteen years, the kitchens, bathrooms and wardrobe interiors are what owners usually want to revisit.

A kitchen that suits how you actually cook, wardrobes rebuilt inside, a bathroom that feels like yours: these can be planned together or one at a time. In a building of only 25 homes, staging the work also keeps the disruption to your neighbours short.

What a Rhombus renovation usually covers

  • KeepSpace, heightGenerous rooms and tall ceilings; we design to them, not down from them
  • AdaptWardrobesSound carcasses can take new doors, lighting and fittings
  • RenewKitchen, bathsFitted with appliances in 2011, these are the usual candidates
  • CheckPlan, kitchenYour plan, and whether the kitchen is closed or open, before pricing

We check what your home came with, as listed in your sale or tenancy agreement, against what we find on the visit.

Renovation rules at Rhombus

Rhombus’s renovation rules aren’t available online. Before quoting, we ask management for the current version, including deposit, working hours and application forms, and we plan noisy work into as few days as possible.

We have not designed a Rhombus home before. On the first call we’ll take you through projects we’ve completed elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur.

Before works at Rhombus

Three approvals, in order. A tenant needs the landlord’s consent in writing. Management then approves the works under its rules. Certain jobs also need a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) permit, which the appointed contractor obtains.

Moving wet areas, removing walls or touching structure tends to need all three, so we raise it on day one. Styling, which fixes nothing, needs none.

Interior design fees at Rhombus

07How much does interior design cost?

What interior design costs at Rhombus

The Sundays in Bed design fee for a Rhombus 4+1 is estimated at RM23,310–30,440, agreed in writing first.

It is the fee for designing; the renovation and furniture come from a separate budget.

Each room we design
RM3,565
Living and dining
RM5,485

Design fee only: renovation and furniture have their own budget, set out below.

A typical Rhombus brief: four bedrooms and the kitchen at RM3,565 each, and the open living and dining at RM5,485, which adds up to RM23,310. Add two more rooms, such as a bathroom and the maid’s room fitted as a study, and it becomes RM30,440.

Interior design includes our Procurement Concierge, and any room that just needs styling is charged at half the styling rate.

Our design fee, estimated

4 bedrooms and the kitchen: 5 rooms at RM3,565, plus the open-plan living and dining at RM5,485. The foyer and any yard or service area are designed free.

Within each level, the lower figure covers the essentials; the upper figure adds extras such as a feature wall, LED strips and a kitchen island.

What the two levels mean

Curated. Melamine or laminate carpentry, quartz or sintered stone tops, the existing ceiling kept or a new plaster ceiling. Furniture from Commune, Cellini, Fella Design, Dezign District, Poet Living, Big Brain, Gudang, Crown Livin and Dadswood.

Bespoke. Detailed joinery, sintered stone tops, a plaster ceiling with detailing. Furniture from Space Furniture, Tekni, BoConcept, King Living, Ambient Living, Stanzo, Forest Furniture, Roche Bobois, XTRA, Urban Edge, Molteni&C, Nostaloft, Flexform, Janine and Chesters Collection.

About these Rhombus figures

We’ve treated the kitchen as its own room. If yours is open to the dining area, deduct RM3,565; we confirm it when we visit. The fee is agreed in writing and paid in stages, and upgrading a material changes the contractor’s price, not our fee.

Our fee plus Curated renovation and furniture (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living) comes to roughly RM246k–456k for a 4,000 sq ft Rhombus 4+1.

Assumptions behind the ranges

Priced as a 2011 home with new flooring. The lower figure includes no bathroom redesign; add bathrooms in the calculator if you want them.

Wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, bedroom air-conditioners, a washer-dryer, hob and hood are included; if you’re keeping the ones Beneton supplied, they come off. Vanities aren’t included.

Furnishing to let?

Preparing a Rhombus home for a new tenant? If it only needs furniture, styling will do. If it needs repair work as well, our Essential level, with furniture from Ikea, SSF Home or Harvey Norman, installs quickly and wears well between tenancies. The design fee is the same at every level.

FAQ

Styling and interior design questions at Rhombus, Bangsar

Rhombus homes came furnished. Do I have to keep the original furniture?

No. We list everything that came with the home and decide with you what stays, what moves and what goes. Built-ins remain; loose pieces are your call, or your landlord’s if you rent.

Can tenants restyle a Rhombus home without asking the landlord?

For free-standing things, yes: furniture, rugs, lamps, curtains on existing rails, art leaned or on a ledge. Anything screwed to a wall needs the landlord’s written consent, and works need management approval too.

How much is interior styling at Rhombus?

About RM9,495–12,925 for a 4+1, as an estimate. Four bedrooms at RM1,715 each and the open living and dining at RM2,635 make the lower figure; two more rooms make the upper. Furniture is separate.

What’s included when you style a Rhombus home?

A first call, a measuring visit, a placement plan and buying list per room, and an install day with your stylist on site. You choose how many rooms.

How long does styling take at Rhombus?

One to two weeks on site once deliveries are complete. New furniture usually takes four to twelve weeks, so large pieces are ordered first. Planning can start over video before you arrive.

Will Rhombus-sized furniture work in my next home?

We plan for it: modular seating, rugs and lamps that suit smaller rooms, and nothing made to fit one wall. Built-in joinery stays with the home.

How big are the homes at Rhombus?

About 4,000 sq ft: a master suite with its own powder room, four bedrooms and bathrooms in all, and a maid’s room. Twenty-five homes, two per floor, each with a private lobby; one penthouse takes the top floor. Ceilings are three metres high.

Should I choose styling or interior design for a Rhombus home?

Styling if the rooms work and need your furniture and art. Interior design if the kitchen, bathrooms or wardrobes need changing. Plenty of people start with styling and return for design later.

How much is interior design at Rhombus?

Our design fee is estimated at RM23,310–30,440 for a 4+1, agreed in writing. Renovation and furniture are separate: roughly RM223k–433k at Curated (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living) for a 4,000 sq ft home.

What are the renovation rules at Rhombus?

They aren’t published, so we ask management for the current copy, with deposit, working hours and forms, before we quote. If you rent, the landlord’s written consent comes first.

Which services do you offer for Rhombus homes?

Styling for tenants and owners alike, and interior design for kitchens, bathrooms and joinery. We draw the plans, compare contractors’ quotes with you and oversee the works, which contractors carry out. Procurement Concierge is available on its own, and Virtual Design serves homes outside Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
