The Cedar floor plans, from about 2,700 to 10,000 sq ft

The Cedar is a low-density freehold development of 70 homes on Jalan Setiakasih in Bukit Damansara: 60 apartments and 10 duplex penthouses, from about 2,700 to 10,000 sq ft, with two to five bedrooms.

Interior design starts with which of them is yours and who will live in it.

Satin Magic is building The Cedar on 4.2 acres of freehold land, a long, low building on a ridge in the Setiakasih neighbourhood, designed by Hamiltons International. StarProperty describes more than 200 newly planted trees, a forest of cedars at ground level and a walking trail of about a kilometre; The Edge counts 60 apartments and 10 duplex penthouses.

  • about 2,700 sq ftThe smaller apartments, from two bedrooms
  • about 4,850–5,980 sq ftLarger homes listed with four bedrooms and a study, five bathrooms
  • up to about 10,000 sq ftThe largest homes, including the duplex penthouses

The range and bedroom counts are from StarProperty; the middle sizes are from recent agents’ listings. Floor plans haven’t been published that we could find, so we work from yours.

What new keys at The Cedar mean

StarProperty describes a private lift lobby before the open-plan living area in most apartments, with high ceilings and generous verandahs alongside. That sequence, lift, lobby, living room, verandah, is the order we design in.

Main bedrooms come with walk-in closets and bathrooms in contrasting white and black marble. These are the developer’s decisions, and many are worth keeping; the question is what sits around them.

During the developer’s defects period, we plan around anything the developer still has to put right, so its contractors and yours are never working on the same wall.

02The design

Interior design at The Cedar for new homes of 2,700 sq ft and more

A home at The Cedar arrives finished to the developer’s standard, but not yet to yours.

Interior design decides what to keep, what to add and in what order, so you move in once and nothing is pulled out a year later.

If you’ve only just collected the keys

Before anything is ordered, we walk the home with you and list every finish the developer has fitted. Stone, timber and fittings that suit you stay, and the design is drawn around them.

Verandahs as rooms

A deep verandah is a room without walls. It needs shade, a floor that can take rain, furniture that dries quickly and a light for the evening, planned together with the living room it opens from.

High ceilings and daylight

Tall rooms carry light a long way in but can feel bare at night. We bring the light down: lamps at sitting height, picture lights, a pendant over the dining table hung low enough to gather people.

Furniture for rooms this size

Large rooms make ordinary furniture look small. We size sofas, rugs and tables to the room and place them to make smaller places within it: a reading corner, a dining end, a seat by the verandah doors.

03The design fee

What interior design costs at The Cedar

Designing a home at The Cedar is estimated at RM19,745–26,875 for a three-bedroom apartment and RM26,875–34,005 for a four-bedroom home with a study.

That’s our fee only, set room by room and signed before we begin; renovation and furniture are budgets of their own.

Each room we design
RM3,565
Living and dining
RM5,485

The Cedar’s floor plans aren’t published, so these figures take a smaller apartment with three bedrooms and a larger home with four bedrooms and a study, as recent listings describe it. Each bedroom, study and the kitchen is one room at RM3,565; living and dining together are RM5,485. Three bedrooms: 4 × RM3,565 + RM5,485 = RM19,745. Four and a study: 6 × RM3,565 + RM5,485 = RM26,875.

In a new home, the two extra rooms in the upper figures usually go to bathrooms or a dressing room rather than a rebuild. Rooms that need only furniture are styled at half the styling rate once you’ve chosen interior design.

Our design fee, estimated

3 bedrooms and the kitchen total 4 rooms at RM3,565; living and dining together are RM5,485. Foyer and yard: no design fee.

Per level, a figure for the essentials and a second with extras such as panelled walls, concealed lighting or an island.

What the two levels mean

Curated. Melamine or laminate carpentry, quartz or sintered stone tops, the existing ceiling kept or a new plaster ceiling. Furniture from Commune, Cellini, Fella Design, Dezign District, Poet Living, Big Brain, Gudang, Crown Livin and Dadswood.

Bespoke. Detailed joinery, sintered stone tops, a plaster ceiling with detailing. Furniture from Space Furniture, Tekni, BoConcept, King Living, Ambient Living, Stanzo, Forest Furniture, Roche Bobois, XTRA, Urban Edge, Molteni&C, Nostaloft, Flexform, Janine and Chesters Collection.

How the fee works at The Cedar

Every bedroom, study, kitchen and any bathroom you change is a room at RM3,565; living and dining count once, at RM5,485. Once signed, the fee holds, whatever stone you choose.

For the four-bedroom home with a study, our fee plus Curated finishes (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living) comes to about RM208k–435k.

Renovation and furniture ranges are October 2026 estimates, to be confirmed by contractors’ quotes.

How these figures are worked out

The Cedar is priced as a new home, so the ranges leave out the strip-out and rewiring an older flat needs and put the money into joinery, lighting, finishes and furniture. The penthouses, at up to about 10,000 sq ft, are priced after a visit.

Furnishing to let?

If a home at The Cedar is to be let, the Essential level, with Ikea, SSF Home or Harvey Norman furniture, is quick to install and simple to replace between tenants. The design fee is the same at every level.

04Working together

Your interior designer at The Cedar, from keys to move-in

One designer from us takes your home at The Cedar from bare keys to the day you move in.

We draw it, lay contractors’ quotes side by side for you, and supervise the works the contractor you choose carries out.

In a new building, several households are fitting out at the same time. We agree working hours, deliveries and lift bookings with management early, and keep our programme clear of the developer’s own repairs.

  1. A first call Free
When the keys arrive, which plan you have, who lives here and what you’d keep from the developer’s finish.
  2. A walk through the home RM200, deducted if you go ahead with us
We measure each room and verandah, note every fitted finish, and see how light moves across your side of the building.
  3. Rooms chosen, fee signed
The room list and our fee on paper, then layouts, joinery, lighting and a materials board.
  4. Quotes compared
Contractors price the same drawings, management reviews them, and we go through each quote with you.
  5. Built and furnished
We supervise the works, check each room against the drawings and place the furniture before you move in.

Joinery and imported furniture take time to make and ship. Ordering from the drawings while the works are on means fewer empty rooms on moving day.

The full process

Approvals at The Cedar

The Cedar has a Kuala Lumpur postcode, so heavier work needs a DBKL permit, filed by your contractor once management has consented in writing.

We couldn’t find the building’s renovation rules published, so we ask management for them, with the deposit and working hours, before quotes go out. While the developer’s defects period runs, we also check with you whether a change affects what the developer will still put right.

05Your home

Furnishing and renovating at The Cedar, among 70 homes

A home at The Cedar is usually designed once, in full, and lived in for many years.

We plan it so it suits the household now and still works when the household changes.

On the roof there is an infinity-edge pool, and below a tennis court and a furnished entertaining space that opens onto the gardens, so the home itself can give its rooms to living, sleeping and work rather than to hosting a crowd.

FAQ

Designing a home at The Cedar: your questions

What does it cost to furnish and fit out a home at The Cedar?

For a four-bedroom home with a study of about 4,852 sq ft, roughly RM181k–408k at Curated (Commune, Cellini, Poet Living) or RM370k–940k at Bespoke (Space Furniture, BoConcept, Molteni&C), before our fee. A new home needs less building work than an older one, so more of the budget goes to joinery and furniture.

Is The Cedar in Damansara Heights or Bukit Damansara?

Listings place it on Jalan Setiakasih in Bukit Damansara, the hillside neighbourhood beside Damansara Heights, with a Kuala Lumpur 50490 postcode. Some reports describe it as Damansara Heights.

How many homes are there at The Cedar?

70: 60 apartments and 10 duplex penthouses, on 4.2 acres of freehold land, as The Edge reports.

What sizes are the homes at The Cedar?

From about 2,700 sq ft to about 10,000 sq ft, with two to five bedrooms. Recent listings include four-bedroom homes with a study of about 4,850 and 5,980 sq ft.

When is The Cedar completed?

Sources give 2025 to 2026 for completion, and we couldn’t confirm a handover date. We can start designing from the developer’s plans before the keys arrive, then measure at handover.

Should I renovate a brand-new home at The Cedar?

Rarely all of it. Most new-key work is adding: wardrobes, a study, lighting, curtains and furniture, with changes to the developer’s finish kept to the rooms that don’t suit you.

Do I need DBKL approval for works at The Cedar?

For more than cosmetic work, usually yes. Management consents in writing first; then your contractor applies to DBKL with our drawings.

How long does it take to design and fit out a home at The Cedar?

Allow a few months for design, quotes and consent, then the works. A new home needs less on site than an older one, but joinery and imported furniture can take twelve weeks or more, so we order early.

Can I see a home you’ve designed at The Cedar?

Not yet. The room pictured near the top of this page shows a mood, not one of our projects; our project at Regent Suites, in Damansara Heights, is the nearest example of our work.

What interior design services do you offer at The Cedar?

At The Cedar we design new homes from handover: layouts, joinery, lighting, finishes and furniture, room by room or the whole home. We draw the plans, compare contractors’ quotes with you and manage the works on site; contractors do the building. Styling alone suits a home that needs only furniture, and Virtual Design serves homes outside Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
