The two most common questions we get from someone about to furnish a new condo or landed home are almost never about style. They are: "do I need interior design or styling," and "what's the difference, really." Here is the honest, unglamorous answer — including both prices, up front.
The short version
Styling works with what you already own. Design starts from an empty room. Most homes need one for some rooms and the other for the rest.
- Styling: layout, lighting, art, textiles and the pieces you already have.
- Design: full scheme, floor plan, technical drawings, contractor coordination and procurement.
- You do not have to choose one service for the whole home.
What is the difference between interior design and styling?
Interior styling works with furniture you already own, or plan to buy yourself, and focuses on making a room feel finished. Interior design starts from the layout up — space planning, materials, technical drawings, purchasing and installation — and includes project management from the first meeting to move-in. In Malaysia we price interior styling at RM1,715 per standard room and full interior design at RM3,565 per standard room. Styling changes nothing structural; design can change the layout itself.

Both are priced per room, not as a percentage of your build, and the number is agreed before anything is drawn.
What does interior styling include?
If your rooms already have the furniture you want to keep, but something still feels unfinished — art, lighting, textiles, the way things are arranged — styling is usually the right scope. A styling consultation walks through your space, works with what you already own, and delivers a curated shopping list and a room-by-room placement guide for the pieces that are missing. It is priced at RM1,715 per standard room, or RM2,635 for an open-plan living-dining space, and does not require you to change anything structural.

What does interior design include?
If a room — or the whole home — is starting close to empty, or the layout itself needs rethinking, interior design is the complete service: space planning, a full design direction covering materials and colour, a complete shopping list, and purchasing, delivery and installation managed for you. Concierge service — the personal shopping and logistics work — is included at no extra charge. It is priced at RM3,565 per standard room, or RM5,485 for open-plan, and comes with one dedicated designer carrying the project from your first meeting to the day you move in.
How much do interior design and styling cost in Malaysia?
Interior styling starts at RM1,715 per standard room and full interior design at RM3,565 per standard room. Open-plan living-dining spaces are priced as one larger room: RM2,635 for styling, RM5,485 for design. Every figure is a flat fee per room, fixed before work begins.

Two things change the total in your favour. Concierge — the ordering, delivery and returns work — is included free inside an interior design project. And if some rooms in a design project only need styling, those rooms are charged at half price within the same project.
Do I need interior design or interior styling?
- Keeping your existing furniture and mostly happy with the layout: styling.
- Starting close to empty, or unhappy with how the space is laid out: design.
- Want someone else to handle ordering, delivery and returns, without a full redesign: styling plus a standalone concierge service.
- Furnishing an entire new home at once: design, room by room, is usually the more efficient path — and if some rooms only need styling, those rooms are discounted 50% as part of the same project.
Can you use interior design and styling in the same home?
Yes — and most homes are better served that way. Because both services are priced per room rather than per home, the two can be mixed inside a single project: a living room that needs a full rethink can sit alongside a bedroom that only needs the finishing touches. The scope follows the room rather than the other way around, and styling-only rooms inside a design project are charged at half price. You are never asked to pick one service for the whole house.
