Renovation cost index / Kuala Lumpur
What it costs to renovate a home in Bangsar
What your neighbours actually paid, address by address. Bangsar and Bangsar South are counted separately here, because they are not the same market and averaging them would mislead you.
Across 11 published renovation records for Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the median cost is RM114 per square foot, or RM200,000 for a whole home. Bangsar South, two kilometres away and counted separately below, runs materially dearer at RM169 per square foot.
The index, address by address
Every figure here is what somebody actually spent β published project records for these addresses, with the floor area they were spent on. Nothing on this page is a quote.

Bangsar South, counted separately
Two kilometres from Bangsar proper, and a different market entirely β newer, taller, and dearer per square foot. These figures are computed on their own and never averaged into the Bangsar numbers above.

Four ways interior designers charge
Before you compare two quotes, work out which of these each one is. Three of the four move while your project is running.
Per square foot
A percentage of the build
One turnkey number
A fixed fee per room
Sundays in Bed
Same rooms. Any size. Same fee.
We are a residential interior design studio in Kuala Lumpur, and we charge a fixed fee for each room you want designed. Not a rate per square foot. Not a share of your build. A number you know before anything starts.
It means the number cannot drift once work starts. Choosing better stone changes what your contractor charges you, at cost β it does not change what we charge you. And because the fee follows rooms rather than floor area, a larger home costs less per square foot to design, not more.
| Home | Rooms priced | Our design fee | Per sq ft |
|---|
| Home | Built-up (sq ft) | What it cost | Per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|
| A home in Bangsar Hill Park | 1,450 | RM150,000 β RM200,000 | RM103β138 |
RM103β138 per square foot β within a few percent of the Bangsar median of RM114.

Questions people ask
How much does it cost to renovate a home in Bangsar?
Across 11 published records with both a budget and a floor area, the median is RM114 per square foot and RM200,000 for a whole home, with a range of RM80 to RM230. Bangsar South is counted separately and runs dearer, at a median of RM169 per square foot.
Are Bangsar and Bangsar South the same place?
No, and treating them as one would give you a misleading number. Bangsar proper is the older low-rise and landed neighbourhood; Bangsar South is a 2010s high-rise development about two kilometres away. Their median renovation rates are 48% apart, so we publish them as two separate indices.
How does Sundays in Bed charge?
A fixed fee per room, agreed before work begins. It does not move with your budget, your finish level, or the contractorβs quote. Contractor works are quoted separately at cost, with no mark-up and no percentage of your build.
Does a higher finish level cost more in design fees?
No. Essential, Curated and Bespoke change the materials and the contractor works. The design fee is identical across all three. Drag the level in the calculator above and watch the fee stay still.
Do you work on landed homes in Bangsar?
Yes. Landed homes are tagged in the index and kept out of the condominium averages because they price differently β several include structural and architectural work rather than a straight fit-out. The calculator handles both.
How this was built
- The recorded figures. 11 published project records for Bangsar, each with both a stated renovation budget and a stated built-up area. 10 of them name their development, so only those appear in the table. The headline medians come from the 9 that are fit-outs priced as interior design alone. Every figure is as published β nothing rounded, inferred or filled in.
- What they include. These are self-reported by the firms that did the work, and the scope is not consistent between them. Some fold loose furniture into the total. A few bundle structural and architectural work, which lifts them above a straight fit-out. Read any single figure as indicative, not audited.
- Our own figures. Our design fee comes from the same costing engine as our quote tool, and the contractor-works ranges in the calculator come from published rate bands for paint, flooring, kitchen, wardrobes, electrical, plumbing and loose furnishing. Where we show our own completed projects, those are our records, not estimates.
- What a real quote would add. Ceiling height. Hacking and structural work. Waterproofing. Management rules on working hours and lift access. How much of the developer's original finish survives. None of that sits in a per-square-foot average, and all of it moves a real number.
- Why sample size is printed on every row. 11 priced records for Bangsar proper is a thin sample, and only one address has more than one project behind it. Enough to place the market; not enough to quote an address-level rate, so we do not.
