How do design studios usually charge — and why a flat fee?
Most studios price design one of four ways. By the hour — every meeting, email and revision goes on the clock, so the total depends on how the project unfolds. As a percentage of budget — the fee is a slice of whatever your project ends up costing, so a bigger budget means a bigger fee. Per square foot — the fee tracks floor area, so larger homes carry larger design fees. All are honest ways to work, and which fits is your decision.
We charge the fourth way: one flat fee per room, agreed before any work starts, with calls, revisions and sourcing covered. The number can't move, however the project unfolds — which is why we chose it for new Malaysian homes.
Why is a flat fee better for a new condo or house?
It's the fit we've chosen for new Malaysian homes. You can plan your renovation and furnishing budget around a design fee that's known on day one, and because our fee doesn't change with what you spend, our recommendations are only ever about the home. Other models suit other kinds of projects — the choice is always yours.
Do you work to a fixed budget, or estimate as you go?
The two numbers are handled differently, on purpose. Our design fee is fixed before we begin. Your renovation and furnishing budget is yours: tell us the number and we design to it — gathering real contractor quotes and building an itemised shopping list, so you approve actual prices rather than estimates that drift.
Are your fees separate from the build and furnishing costs?
Yes — deliberately. The design fee is ours; the furnishing budget and any contractor works are yours, and each is quoted in the open. We're a design consultation studio, not a design-and-build firm: contractors quote and carry out the works, and we gather and compare those quotes for you, so you always see where the money goes.
Does your fee change if my renovation budget grows?
No. That's the whole point of the model. Whether the works come in modest or ambitious, the design fee you agreed at the start is the design fee you pay.
Is hiring an interior designer worth it for a new home?
A designer earns their fee in the mistakes you don't make: layouts that work the first time, furniture that fits through the lift and past the columns, pieces bought once instead of twice. With a flat fee, that value is easy to weigh — one known number against the cost of getting a whole home wrong.
Can I hire you just for the ideas, and do the buying myself?
Yes. Interior styling and Remote design both end with a complete plan and shopping list you can carry out at your own pace. If you'd rather hand the buying, deliveries and returns to someone else, the concierge does exactly that — it's included with Interior design.
How do I avoid unexpected costs?
Agree the fee before the work — ours is fixed per room, in writing. See real numbers before committing — we gather contractor quotes and itemise the shopping list, so approval happens at actual prices. And if you'd like us to see the space first, a Klang Valley site visit is RM200, deducted from your project if you proceed.
What is the most affordable way to work with you?
Start with the rooms that matter and the lightest tier that fits. Interior styling works with the furniture you already own, room by room. And if you choose Interior design, the concierge is included and styling fees are 50% off — the fuller service quietly rewards you for bundling.
What does the concierge service actually do?
Once your designer hands over the shopping list, the concierge sources each piece across retailers, places the orders and manages deliveries, returns and exchanges — the coordination that usually swallows your weekends. You can just as happily take the list and do it yourself.
How much should I budget to furnish my home?
It depends on how many rooms, which service, and the furniture you choose — so we start with your number, not ours. Tell us your budget at the discovery call and we design to it; your shopping list then shows the exact cost of everything before you buy a single piece. For early planning, the cost calculator gives you an instant picture.
